Anglicans, Episcopalians:

What's the difference?

The difference is, at first glance, in the meaning of the words. The word “Episcopal” means that it is an Anglican church in America. Therefore, the Episcopal Church is a province (subdivision) of the Anglican Church.

So, what exactly does that make us? It makes us "members of the Anglican communion in America". Currently that status is somewhat 'under review', but officially the Episcopal Church is a province of the bigger Anglican Communion.

So what do we believe? We believe in the Creeds (the Nicene and Apostle's Creed, to be exact), the Bible, and the teachings of the Church. More specifically, we believe that:

  • God is the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth;
  • Jesus is the only Son of God, who came down from Heaven and took Human form;
  • Jesus died on a cross for our sake, to seal the wound left by Adam and Eve and to bring us eternal life with him in Heaven;
  • Jesus will come again to judge the living and the dead, and those who have lived holy lives, done good works, and believed in him will live forever with him.

Which brings us to our purpose; Why we as Christ Church exist. We exist to bring people to God and the true Faith; we exist to help people live holy lives and to come into deeper understanding of our Lord.
